We have a dedicated and trained team of local volunteers who provide transport and guiding to our events. Typically there are three per month; a social club meeting at Stoke Poges, a craft club at Burnham and at least one activity for the Working Age Activity Group (WAAG) out in the community or countryside.

THE WAAG

The Working Age Activity Group (WAAG) arranges activities for our our younger and more mobile members.

For example, this year we piloted a new workshop-style event to improve independent kitchen skills and food handling methods for the visually impaired. Three of our local volunteers undertook appropriate training to support three members through a day and evening session to prepare, cook and host a curry night for a large group of volunteers and members to enjoy.

And as an example of the many outdoor activities we enjoy, the photo on the left was taken during our trip to the Watercress Line steam railway.

The dates of future events may be found on the Events page.

THE CRAFT CLUB

The craft club was formed in 2010 and has continued to grow each year. Membership ranges from partially sighted through to totally blind, and in age range from 21 through to 93!

Some members require a dedicated volunteer/guider for these sessions, whilst others work in groups of two or three with a volunteer. It’s an energetic club working on a range of projects through the year using different crafting mediums.

Large scale materials and brightly contrasting colours work well. These sections of recycled coloured foam were ideal to be seen or felt by members as they formed their totem pole faces for their display.

Volunteers Liz and Pam run the club in Burnham with a large team of volunteers who bring lots of fun and crafting talents to this motivated group every month.

The dates of future events may be found on the Events page.

THE STOKE POGES CLUB

The Stoke Poges Club is held every month and normally takes place at St Andrews church hall. It is open to all members and transport to and from the venue is arranged by the volunteers.

The activities include entertainment, quizes and refreshments. On special occasions such as Christmas the members are provided with a hot meal.

Once or twice a year the club members are taken on an outing. Recently they have visited the Horses Trust near Princess Risborough and in 2012 they had the opportunity to visit the venue for the Olympic rowing events at Dorney Lake.

The dates of future events may be found on the Events page.
